When Hot Hits arrived in 1970, there was no indication that it was the first of a series (it wasn't called Volume 1). Recent album titles had been Top Hits, Big Hits, Hits Again and Hits '70 - Hot Hits seemed like just another variant. OK, the cover model was new, but few could have foreseen the dawn of this famous series of 20 LPs.
Several of these sold very well, number 6 even topping the official album chart in 1971. Others are noted for famous names appearing on them (Larry Adler on Hot Hits 1, David Byron on Hot Hits 5, Tina Charles on Hot Hits 17...) and for their cover models - check out the classic shots of Caroline Munroe on either side of Hot Hits 11.
This series lasted a little more than three years, but its 20 albums have become period relics with their retro styling, sporty artwork and musical kitsch. Click any cover below for full details.
